Infant CPR- Chocking (ICC)

For me, this is the MUST-LEARN CPR for all parents. I was educated with ICC 4 days after giving birth to Aliya, and it's compulsory for all parents in State to know this ICC.

Below are 'Choking rescue procedures' by WebMD:

Baby (Younger Than 1 Year)

If the baby can cough or make sounds, let him or her cough to try to get the object out. If you are worried about the baby's breathing, call 911.

If a baby can't breathe, cough, or make sounds, then:

  • Put the baby facedown on your forearm so the baby's head is lower than his or her chest.
  • Support the baby's head in your palm, against your thigh. Don't cover the baby's mouth or twist his or her neck.
  • Use the heel of one hand to give up to 5 back slaps between the baby's shoulder blades. See picture C.
  • If the object does not pop out, support the baby's head and turn him or her faceup on your thigh. Keep the baby's head lower than his or her body.
  • Place 2 or 3 fingers just below the nipple line on the baby's breastbone and give 5 quick chest thrusts (same position as chest compressions in CPR for a baby). See picture D.
  • Keep giving 5 back slaps and 5 chest thrusts until the object comes out or the baby faints.

If the baby faints, call
911 (if you haven't called already). Then:

  • Do not do any more back slaps or chest thrusts.
  • Start CPR. Each time you open the airway, look for an object in the baby's mouth. If you see the object, take it out. But if you can't see the object, don't stick your finger down the baby's throat to feel for it.
  • Keep doing CPR until the baby is breathing on his or her own or until help arrives.

Aliya started to walk this evening!

I'm so happy when she started to slowly walk with her stroller in this 2 weeks, and today's, she managed to move her tiny feet without any support. Today she is 1 year and 15days.

SAHIBBA VS LIFE

Sahibba...

In these few weeks, my family and I spent our evening playing SAHIBBA, an indoor game like SCRABBLE. As we played, anyone can win or lose.

You need skill and luck to win the game. You will be given random letters to form words. If you sharp and know a lot of vocabularies, you can easily form words from scramble letters, but sometimes, you will get a lot of weird letters, a lot of vowels or no vowels at all to form words, or threre is no place to put your words on the board.

Life...

Most of the time, we don't know what will we get. So, we need to prepare ourselves, with skills, knowledge, and experience. Then, whatever obstacles, tasks, challenges, we know how to face and handle it.

But sometimes, luck is not with us. We get unexpected problems, unpredicted tests. Even with our skills, knowledge and experiences, there is no way to solve it. Here comes faith, patience.

Not saying we need to forfeit. But we just need a lose so we can have a big win later.

"Two little mice fell into a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned, but the second mouse, he struggled so hard that he eventually churned that cream into butter and he walked out." ~quote from catch me if you can movie.

Finally, Aliya's teething! And it's her 11months old next week.

I am so excited when I felt Aliya's tiny teeth in her mouth:).

"It's a well-known fact that, once a baby reaches teething age, everything goes into the mouth. For nursing mothers, it can be a frustration when the child you've been waking yourself every two hours to feed suddenly bites you hard, but try not to take it personally. Do stop your baby and so, "no biting!" in your "I mean it" voice. (If you don't have your "I mean it" voice in place yet, here's where you develop it). Don't worry: you won't traumatize your child and you may be able to get the message across and continue to breastfeed in an atmosphere of mutual respect and (guarded) trust. Some babies won't stop biting when nursing, in which case, moms usually decide to wean their children. This is one of the first times you will have to decide whether you're going to be an assertive parent who manages to meet the needs of her baby while maintaining her own need not to be injured, or a resentful martyr who bears unnecessary bruises and whose child will go on to bite babysitters, grandparents and even pets in her quest for something firm to chew on.

Do not drink from a can

I received this email from my friend this morning. I think the reason why we shouldn't drink from a can is reasonable! So, be careful ya!

THIS IS SERIOUS!

"This incident happened recently in North Texas. A woman went boating one Sunday taking with her some cans of coke which she put into refrigerator of the boat.

On Monday she was taken to the hospital and placed in the Intensive Care Unit. She died on Wednesday. The autopsy concluded she died of Leptospirosis. This was traced to the can of coke she drank from, not using a glass.

Tests showed that the can was infected by dried RAT urine and hence the disease Leptospirosis. RAT urine contains toxic and deathly substances.

It's highly recommended to thoroughly wash the upper part of soda cans before drinking out of them. The cans are typically stocked in warehouses and transported straight to the shops without being cleaned.

A study at NYCU showed that the tops of all cans are more contamined than public toilet (i.e.) full of germs and bacteria. So wash them with water before putting them to the mouth to avoid any kind of fatal accident."

...and this is all the email said, so think wisely before you drink from a soda can.

Alam rumah tangga

saya rasa: Yup, itulah salah satu kelebihan berumah tangga. Tapi yang penting kepercayaan dan kejujuran antara suami/ isteri dan jangan pula menghebahkan hal rumah tangga kat orang lain! :)

p/s: musim orang kawin skang ni! All the best untuk kawan2 yang akan melangsungkan perkahwinan nanti, kami ada sekurang2nya 10 jemputan dari kawan2... tak tahu la sempat hadir ke tak tu... Selamat berbahagia selalu! :)

Aliya's "must-have" first aid kit

I used to prepare this emergency kit for Aliya:

  • Doctor's contact number and information
  • Insurance card (this is important for USA medical health care)
  • Thermometer
  • Cream/ lotion for rashes
  • Non-aspirin liquid pain reliever
  • Nasal aspirator
  • Baby's vapor balm
  • Baby's wipe
  • Baby's cooling pad for fever
Yup, this emergency kit is important and there are plenty of them. Be prepared for your baby.

Aliya demam campak

Aliya dah demam panas selama tiga hari, then hari ni tompok2 merah kelihatan kat badan dia. Bagi ubat antibiotik dan ubat demam kat dia, harap2 dia cepat2 sembuh dan demam tak melarat. Kesian dia macam lenguh2 badan aje.. :(
