A visit to Garretson town.

We went to Garretson, SD this morning after papa finished some work in the lab. It was a last minute decision since it was snowing in Brookings. It took us 55 minutes to there. Garretson has one place name Devil's Gulch (Jesse James jumped here). Here was the place where bank robbers Jesse and Frank James escaped from lawmen in 1876. I read they jumped from one of the bridge and hide in a cave here. Click the link for more details.

When we arrived, it kind of disappointment when we read a notice at the gate of Devil Gulch entrance. The place is only available for visitor starting mid-May.  I hope we have an opportunity to visit the Devil's Gulch another time, insyaAllah.

After a few minutes of side-seeing the town, we saw the "Jesse James-Pontoon Rides" signboard not far from the Devil's Gulch place. So, we stopped by and took some photos there. The place is quite beautiful. We stayed there for about 20 minutes. Weather not permit us to stay and explore more since it was too cold and windy. My fingers became numb and it was hard for me to hit the camera shutter. A lot of my pictures were blur, huhuhu.

How lucky we are!

One day at the park, we saw an old lady sitting on the bench with a big trolley bag beside her. With a sorrow face, the old lady just sat there covering herself with a piece of blanket. It was a very cold day. Suddenly my eyes burst in tears. I emotionally drained with this situation. How lucky we are! Ya Allah, thank you Ya Allah.

This is not the first time we saw the homeless people lingering around the park with a bunch of clothes with them. No place to sleep and no money to eat, with a sign "I'm a broke traveler and hungry...". I heard some of them are graduated from university and some of them just getting fired from a job. It's not easy to get a job nowadays! If there are lucky, a fortunate individual or a private charity organization will help them with the clothes, blanket and foods.

How lucky we are!

Bad weather for the weekend!

Assalaamu’alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh
May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon you. :)

First of all, happy weekend to all! Have a good one and may Allah bless you always.

Five days forecast for Brookings.

It has a chance of thunder-storms and rain shower for Saturday and Sunday. So, all the weekend plans probably will be cancelled. Poor Aliya, since she loves to be outside. Allah knows well . :)

Last but not least, I want to share with you my sunset photo. I took it when we went back from Walmart this evening. Subhanallah, the beautiful sunset view I ever seen.

Serikaya

I'm thinking of making Serikaya this weekend. I'm so craving for this traditional, authentic Malaysian food. huhuhu Is it ok if I use dairy milk to replace coconut milk? huhuhu

I found a few Serikaya recipes from these cooking blogs:

We just got back from an evening at windmills field.
Enjoy the photos below! :) I also uploaded some photos at my Photoblog!

It was  too windy and the weather was too cold. I barely felt my fingers, but I was so happy to take few photos of the windmills.

Weekend + birds hunter!

Assalaamu’alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh
May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon you. :)

After Papa coming back from work this afternoon, we were going for birds photo shooting not far from our apartment. At first, we went to a 'forest' nearby, but it end up with disappointment when I couldn't shoot any birds there. The birds were too far from our sight. My finger started to freeze because of the cold and heavy winds. I wished I had my gloves on to stay a bit longer there.

'The forest'
We headed up to  a parking lot not far from the first site when Papa's saw a few white bird flew over there. When we reached, a bunch of white birds lingering just a few feet above us, and I didn't waste any second to hit my camera shutter. We felt so happy, especially Aliya and I. Aliya kept saying 'cirp cirp cirp', her sound for the chirping birds! It's my first experience shooting wild birds this close. Subhanallah! Alhamdulillah! Allahuakbar! speechless!

After 30 minutes there, we got tired and hungry, so, we went to Subway for their 12 inches tuna sandwich. We had a great short family hang out this evening. Thanks to Papa for your time! =)

The white birds (Ring-billed Gull)!
More photos in my photoblog! =)

Alhamdulillah, tomorrow is Saturday. It's time for three of us being outside, going to some 'interesting places'(maybe for another birds hunt, insyaAllah) and spend a happy time together. I hope for the good weather tomorrow since Brookings is not ready for the blooming season yet. The cold and heavy wind, rain and snow are still here. I really can't wait for warm weather.

Have a great weekend to all! =)
